I finally stopped into the City Creamery in Cave Creek, AZ, with my son and husband after dinner at El Encanto restaurant a while back after driving past it many times after we moved to Cave Creek from Scottsdale. We kept our car parked at El Encanto and walked over to the ice cream shop.
We loved the selection of ice cream available. They have classic flavors and a rotation of seasonal offerings. You can get an ice cream cone or a bowl, sundaes, shakes/malts, sodas (including cold brew nitro), and even some fudge in a jar. You can also purchase pints to take home. My favorite flavor is double chocolate orange but sometimes I'll try one of the seasonal ice creams.
Below is one of my favorite flavors I've had so far - candy corn. How do they do that? Looks like I got the last pint, and now I'll have to wait until next Halloween. My son is waiting for Mexican Hot Chocolate, which will be coming soon according to the staff since it's more of a winter flavor.
They churn their own ice cream and sometimes when you walk in or out you can hear the ice cream makers churning. They use the rock salt and ice method.
Because their homemade, hand-crafted ice cream is made in small batches, you can be sure you're getting fresh flavors. Their ice cream is very creamy. With some ice cream that you purchase in a pint, you have to leave it out for a while before you can scoop it. I do take it out first but it softens up pretty quickly.
I Bring Family and Friends
On one of our Girl's Week Away trips (my friends visit me) with an Arizona newbie, a couple of us drove down Cave Creek Rd to Carefree. On the way back we stopped at The City Creamery. You can see the hours of operation in the photo.
Below is my silly son, who visited from the southwest suburbs of Chicago, welcoming you to The City Creamery in Cave Creek.
You can dine inside or out
The City Creamery is in The Prickly Pear Inn Plaza and Stumblina's Cantina is right next door. There are some tables inside and a bar area right out of the door. There are also tables outside in a pretty setting.
The Prickly Pear Plaza Features Other Venues
Below shows a photo of the Prickly Pear Inn sign. There is a cute store in there called The Grumpy Old Mule and to the left is a t-shirt store called Teeslanger. There is also Copper Rose Salon and Spa. It appears that Stumblina's Cantina shares these tables with the ice cream shop patrons.
The Prickly Pear Inn has great ratings and the rooms look very nice. I'd love to spend a night there just to check it out but it's so close to us that it seems silly.
The owners of the creamery own two other locations in Montana at Virginia City and West Yellowstone. They made an announcement that sounds like they're opening another store in Arizona and asked for feedback for their newest location.
They also have trucks that travel to local festivals and fairs. I got this cute pig ice cream scoop at an arts and crafts fair in Carefree last year. It was the best birthday cake ice cream I've ever had.
The staff is always friendly and helpful. The City Creamery is located at:
6268 E Cave Creek Rd Suite 8, Cave Creek, AZ
The phone number is (480) 397-1130
